Voices from Tunisia.

My  February 14th post talked about visiting Egypt and Tunisia and featured an interview from Tunis with Jerry Sorkin, founder of Tunis USA.  Below is an update from Jerry on the situation in Tunisia.

On Thursday I will continue the series of posts on Cuba.

While the media that descended upon Tunisia departed for Egypt, Bahrain, Libya and other revolutions, there has been little coverage by American media on Tunisia’s progress.

Among the few exceptions; an excellent article by Steve Coll in the most recent edition of “The New Yorker”, page 34 of the April 4, 2011 edition. Coll captured the essence of Tunisia’s post-revolution and describes reasons that lie behind what appears to be a successful transition in Tunisia.

We are trying to continue educating the public in the absence of American coverage by bringing to you an ongoing series called, “Voices from Tunisia“, or in Arabic,Aswat min Tunis“.

We hope you will enjoy these first-hand reports and encourage you to use any means of Social Media to pass these video links on to friends and colleagues. Tunisia’s story is different from any other country in North Africa and the Middle East and while bombs, wars and demonstrations seem to attract the news media, Tunisia’s progress, while perhaps not as “sexy”, represents achievments that all Tunisians are striving for…a truly, democratic Tunisia!
